To Rocker Bottom or Not?

(Sketchers Shape Ups)

I'm sure you have all seen people rocking and rolling around town on the new fitness craze... the ROCKER BOTTOM SHOE! They even make rocker bottom sandals, crocs, and boots now.

These shoes are marketed as a means to work out your leg muscles and burn extra calories throughout the day to loose weight. The premise behind this is similar to an exercise ball, it puts you in a constant state of instability where your muscles have to work harder to maintain a balanced position.  Sounds great in theory BUT I CAUTION YOU there is not yet research to support the idea of shoe associated weight loss. ALSO, being slightly 'off balance' all day may not be the best idea as far as performing your job to the best of your abilities.

This being said there are CERTAIN PEOPLE who can BENEFIT from Rocker Bottom Shoes. Research has shown the shoes to be effective at RELIEVING PAIN in people with ARTHRITIS, PLANTAR FASCIITIS, and running related KNEE PAIN.

Now that you've heard the pros and cons you decide: To ROCK or not to ROCK?

I know someone who was wearing these on her daily walks and started having consistent back pain, believed to be caused by the shoes... I say not to rock!
